Maldives, Singapore sign agreements to boost transport cooperation

Maldives and Singapore signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday – designed to boost cooperation in transport sector and investigations into aviation accidents and incidents.

The MoU on Transport Cooperation and the MoU on Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation was signed by Maldivian Transport Minister Aishath Nahula and Singaporean Transport Minister and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S. Iswaran on Tuesday afternoon.

Transport Ministry states that under the MoUs, Maldives and Singapore will strengthen cooperation in the area of transport, including aviation-related training, maritime technical assistance, road and traffic management, and aircraft accident and incident investigation.

Nahula said the signing of the MoUs was a demonstration of Maldives’ commitment towards greater collaboration with Singapore.

"The signing of the Memorandums of Understanding is a demonstration of our commitment towards greater collaboration between Maldives and Singapore. This will spur a further exchange of ideas and best practices in the area of transport,” she said.

Iswaran expressed similar sentiments.

"Singapore the Maldives share strong and long-standing bilateral ties. As fellow small island states, the signing of the Memorandums of Understanding will enable our two countries to deepen our excellent transport relations and cooperation," he said.
