Mayor Muizzu: Government yet to say land will be issued to Male’ residents for free

Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government has yet to say whether land plots will be issued for Male’ residents for free.

Speaking to Sun, Mayor Muizzu the response to his letter to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, requesting the issuance of 1000 land plots from Hulhumale’ for Male’ residents for free included what was said during the presidential address. He detailed that the letter included the number of land plots to be issued from different areas and that it stated the City Council’s concerns will be raised to Planning Ministry.

“It states that selling was never said. But it does not, in clear words, state 1000 land plots will be issued for free,” he stressed.

Therefore, Mayor Muizzu had requested to state in clear words, that the land plots will be issued for Male’ residents for free, as per their request.

“Why I am saying this as Hulhumale’ was reclaimed from the people’s tax money, so was other islands. Therefore, when issuing lands plots for Male’ residents after so long, it should be done in the same manner as other islands,” he had said.
