Criminal Court has issued an order to block online mediums used to preach other religions in the Maldives.

Police said that the order was issued upon their request following an investigation by the Police in collaboration with other relevant authorities regarding online mediums targeted towards Maldivians to preach other religions such as websites, social media pages, youtube channels and applications.

“An order has been issued to block access to such online mediums in areas where there is access to the internet in the Maldives,” they had said.

Police said that they have informed local internet service providers to enforce Criminal Court’s order, via a letter.

Books written in Dhivehi language that preaches other religions have also been published.

Other religions are also being propagated via social media means. They include videos being circulated on the internet, which are dubbed in the Dhivehi language, preaching Christianity – similar to the series broadcasted by TVM during the holy month of Ramadan, Prophet Muhammad.
