A foreigner has been arrested for desecrating a copy of the Quran at a mosque.
The foreigner arrested has been identified as a 36-year-old Bangladeshi national, MD Mannan.
Police said the Criminal Court ordered him in custody for 15 days during a remand hearing held on Sunday.
Criminal Court remanded him citing there was sufficient evidence against him to warrant suspicion and in this trajectory, a report submitted by the Police warranted suspicion that he tore apart a copy of the Quran.
The court also cited the possibility of him fleeing as he is a foreigner as another reason he was remanded in custody.
Arrests have previously been made for desecrating copies of the Quran. In this regard, a Maldivian man has been arrested previously for spitting on a copy of the Quran.
