Two Brazilians – a man and a woman – have been arrested from the Velana International Airport with 18 kilos of drugs.

Cristiano Silva Rodridge Jr, 28, and Nauru Nunez D'Souza, 37, were arrested upon arrival at Velana International Airport on November 2 after authorities found drugs inside Rodridge’s luggage.

The drugs weighed 18.857 kilos.

According to the police, Rodridge confessed to smuggling drugs inside his luggage.

He has been remanded in custody of the police for 15 days.

D’Souza, meanwhile, claimed she did not know Rodridge was carrying drugs – a claim which Rodridge himself backed.

However, the court ordered for D’Souza to be remanded in custody of the police for 7 days, citing the need to gather evidence on her companion.

The case comes after a Brazilian woman was arrested with cocaine worth MVR 83 million from the airport back in August.
