Eight more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Dhevvadhoo, a residential island located in G. A. Atoll, which was placed under monitoring by the health authorities last week.
With the eight new cases, COVID-19 cases in Dhevvadhoo now stands at 18.
Dhevvadhoo councilor Maumoon Ibrahim told Sun that they received the test results on samples sent two days back this Sunday.
Eight of the samples tested positive.
Maumoon said the new cases include the elderly and one child.
Dhevvadhoo discovered its first case on December 24.
Health authorities have now begun conducting random sampling in Dhevvadhoo to gauge the extent of the outbreak in the island.

As cases rise in Dhevvadhoo, health authorities have instructed people who have travelled from Dhevvadhoo to other islands after November 30 to report themselves to their local hospital or health center as soon as possible.
They have also been instructed remain under self-quarantine until they can be tested and cleared of COVID-19.
Four people who travelled from Dhevvadhoo to L. Fonadhoo recently tested positive, prompting the health authorities to place all islands in the L. Atoll linked via causeways under monitoring.
