Members of a family from GA. Dhevvadhoo won big in Sunday’s elections, winning four seats in the Parliament.
One of them contested for the Gemenafushi seat, while the other three contested the three seats in Hulhumale’.
Provisional results show Dr. Ahmed Shamheed, a politician from the main opposition MDP, won the South Hulhumale’ seat with 1,076 votes - far ahead of his closest rival, the main ruling PNC’s Shaneez Hashim (Shaanko), who received 744 votes.
Meanwhile, Abdulla Shazeem, a politician from PNC, won the Central Hulhumale’ seat with 1,746 votes - taking a clear margin from his closest rival, MDP’s Safaath Ahmed Zahir.
Hussain Shareef (Hussainbe), another candidate from PNC, won the North Hulhumale’ seat. He received 861 votes, well ahead of his closest rival, MDP’s Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey), the former managing director of Road Development Corporation (RDC), who received 523 votes.
The fourth family member, PNC’s Asadhulla Shihad, won the Gemanafushi seat with 1,362 votes. His rival, MDP’s Ahmed Saeed, received 1,115 votes.
All four are members of an extended family in Dhevvadhoo.
This year’s elections has also seen a married couple and a father-son duo win seats in the upcoming parliamentary assembly.
