Customs intercept MVR 1.47 million in drugs sent via post in 3 months

Maldives Customs Service announced on Thursday that the agency has intercepted MVR 1.47 million in narcotics smuggled into Maldives via post over the last three months.

According to Customs, the narcotics were discovered during inspection of parcels delivered to Maldives between June 18 and October 13.

The narcotics intercepted by Customs in 12 different instances weigh total 503 grams.

Their estimated street value is above MVR 1.47 million.

DETAILS OF NARCOTICS INTERCEPTED BY CUSTOMS VIA POST:

  1. Ketamine: 12 grams
  2. Ecstasy: 12 grams (42 pills)
  3. Cannabis: 1 gram (14 cannabis seeds)
  4. Ecstasy: 47 grams (116 pills)
  5. Cocaine: 248 grams (powder)
  6. Ecstasy: 10 grams (powder)
  7. Cannabis: 128 grams
  8. Ecstasy: 17 grams
  9. Ecstasy: 16 grams
  10. Cannabis: 6 grams (1 canister)
  11. Cocaine: 3 grams (3 packets)
  12. Cocaine: 3 grams (3 packets)

The packages were most frequently sent from Netherlands and Greater Britain. One of the packages was also sent from Ethiopia.

The narcotics intercepted by Customs have been transferred to the custody of Maldives Police Service for investigation.
