Maldives Police Service has announced changes to the essential permits issued for people to go outdoors during the lockdown and curfew imposed in the capital, Male’ City.

The change comes as the country embraced the holy month of Ramadan, and Police stated that the changes will see timings for public outings between the hours of 17:00 and 19:00 changed. Meaning the permits will no longer allow for essential outings during these hours.

Existing permits will be invalid and the Police will issue a new permit for the user via an SMS message. The new permit will include new timings.

The Economic Ministry has also previously announced that shops can be open for business from 9:00 to 00:00, so the change by Police for the essential permits is not expected to cause much difficulty since the time is mostly reserved by locals for breaking fast.
