Two arrested following high-speed chase in Hulhumale'

Police have apprehended two individuals after a high-speed pursuit involving a car in Hulhumale' on Saturday evening.

A video circulating on social media depicts police officers stopping a silver vehicle near the beach in Hulhumale' Phase I. This location is situated in proximity to the bridge connecting Phase I to Phase II.

The video shows traffic police officers surrounding the car, followed by the arrest of a man and a woman.

In a statement to the media, police indicated that the car failed to comply with a stop order in Hulhumale' and continued to speed through both phases of the island. The police media message further noted that the vehicle intentionally collided with a police motorcycle that was pursuing it, causing the motorcycle to fall.

One of the two police officers on the motorcycle sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment, according to police.

Additional police personnel have been deployed to the scene where the car was stopped and are actively present.

Dangerous driving remains a prevalent concern in the Male' area, with several fatalities reported in such incidents in the recent past.
