Schools reopen for second term after 16-day break

Schools have reopened for the current academic year’s second term after a 16-day break.

The academic began for school students on April 7th. The schools closed for a 16-day break following the conclusion of the first term on July 24th.

According to Education Ministry, there are some 84,000 students enrolled in schools across the Maldives. There are also some 11,000 teachers working in schools, some 10,000 of whom are working in public schools.

The start of the academic year was changed to mid-year during the former administration. But it is set to be reverted back to January next year.

The second school term will end on December 25, after which students will enjoy a long break from December 28th to until schools reopen for the new academic year on January 22nd.
