COVID-19: Contact tracing for all but three cases complete

Speaking at a press conference tonight, National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) epidemiologist and medical officer, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that contact tracing for all cases except cases 72, 83 and 86 were finished.

“How our contact tracing works is, we speak about the information received from contacts and prepare a list of people that information needs to be collected on. From that list of people, those with possible contact is identified, and their information is collected, we then decide that the contact tracing is completed,” said Dr. Afzal giving a brief overview of the procedure.

Dr. Afzal also received the contact tracing information identified since April 15.

  • April 15: 190 contacts
  • April 16: 348 contacts
  • April 18: 139 contacts
  • April 19: 939 contacts
  • April 20: 334 contacts
  • April 21: 414 contacts
  • April 22: 20 contacts

A total of 4,696 tests have been processed in the Maldives so far. The number of positive cases in the country is currently 85 along with two probable cases. The number of pending test results are 383. Out of the figure, 246 samples are from Kuredu Island Resort.
