Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ordered anyone that travelled from Male’, Hulhumale’, Vilimale’ Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu to any other island of the country to place themselves in self-isolation.
Male’ City was placed in lockdown on April 15, 15:30 after the city confrimed the first case of the virus. The order was later expanded to the rest of the country and all non-essential travel between islands was banned due to the confirmed cases in the capital.
The order signed and issued by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru instructed anyone that traveled to another island from the Greater Male’ Area since April 15, to place themselves in self-isolation for a period of 14-days as a safety measure against the spread of the virus.
The order also stated that anyone involved in cargo unloading or loading work and had disembarked to Male’ City, Gulhifalhu, Thilfushi, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’ from their vessels for the work and had returned to their islands to also place themselves in self-isolation. This includes those involved cargo unloading and loading work through air or sea transport. The individuals are also advised to take safety measures to prevent or protect themselves from Covid-19.
Whether the individuals are complying with this order by the HPA is to be overseen by the council of the island. The order by the HPA is also to be complied by all relevant institutions and authorities in the country.
