Maldivian to conduct evacuation flights to Trivandrum, India

National carrier Maldivian will be conducting evacuation flights to Trivandrum, India on Saturday, April 11.

The flights are to be conducted to evacuate locals who are stranded in the Indian city as part of a government effort to evacuate locals abroad amid the pandemic virus situation faced by the world. Many countries across the world have closed off borders and airports to effectively contain the virus, leaving many stranded and unable to return home.

Ina news conference held last night, Maldivian’s PR and Marketing Manager Moosa Waseem announced the evacuation flights. Tickets for the flights are priced at USD 199 (MVR 3,065). Moosa did not give further details of the flight other than the fact that the ticket prices were revised after Maldives Airports Company Limited reduced the charges.

The current ticket prices of Maldivian are:

  • Colombo, Sri Lanka: USD 220 (MVR 3,388)
  • Kochi, India: USD 149 (MVR 2,295)
  • Trivandrum, India: USD 199 (MVR 3,065)
  • Kuala Lampur, Malaysia: USD 330 (MVR 5,082)

Maldivian has so far held repatriation flights to Kochi and Colombo. Around 100 locals were brought back from Colombo while 183 were evacuated from Kochi. A flight was also scheduled for today to evacuate around 200 locals from Malaysia, by the national carrier which is working to conduct further flights to the destinations.
