Maldives terminates 2017 contract with Indian joint venture

The Maldivian government has terminated a contract with Indian joint venture LE Triveni JV for the establishment of a water and sanitation system in Lh. Naifaru and a sanitation system in Th. Veymandhoo.

The MVR 148.9 million contract was signed between the Maldivian government and Lucky Exports Triveni on June 18, 2017 – during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s presidency.

It was stipulated in the contract that the company complete the projects in 18 months.

An official from Planning and Infrastructure Ministry, on Thursday, confirmed the contract had been terminated for failure to complete the work within the contracted period.

The projects in Naifaru and Veymandhoo were financed through OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
