One of the ambulance drivers who works for Hulhumale’ Hospital has been placed on suspension following his arrest for possession of narcotics.
Maldives Police Service reports the driver was arrested from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Sunday night where he had escorted a patient from Hulhumale’ Hospital who needed further treatment.
Asiya Solih, media official of Aasandha Company which is in charge of managing the Hulhumale’ Hospital, clarified the junior driver arrested for possession of narcotics had not been the one operating the ambulance on Sunday night, but had been working as assistant to the senior driver.
The junior driver has now been placed on suspension pending a decision by the MPS.
The driver was reportedly under the influence of narcotics when he was arrested, and two packets of a narcotic substance was found on his person.
The driver has now been released from detention, but the police are carrying out an investigation into the case, reports MPS.
