Diplomats have joined the growing list of people calling for the resignation of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim who is in the middle of a sexual harassment scandal.
Maldivian Ambassador to India, Mohamed Ahmed tweeted last Friday night that he supports the call for Dr. Asim to resign.
Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed said Dr. Asim should at least refrain from reporting to work and issue a personal statement on the allegations.
Meanwhile, Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) has also called out for Dr. Asim’s resignation.
Mundhu noted that Dr. Asim was the face of Maldivian foreign diplomacy, and that if he had nothing to say to defend against the serious accusations against him, he should resign.

With all due respect, I would like to state that I fully endorse the call by @mundhu_maldives. I hope you will at least refrain from reporting to work. I also hope you will consider exonerating yourself from the accusations by issuing a personal statement. @MDVForeign https://t.co/6HVY2ZoWj2
News that a top official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been accused of sexually harassing at least three junior female staff at the ministry broke over the local media last Thursday.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a blanket statement later that Thursday, confirming that a senior official at the ministry has been accused of sexual harassment.
The blanket statement by the ministry has been criticized over its lack of specificity and failure to confirm the identity of the accused.
Both Mohamed Ahmed, Mundhu, and multiple others in the foreign corp. have identified the accused as Dr. Asim.
