Elderly man arrested for possession of 14 bottles of liquor

An elderly man driving a pickup in Hulhumale' Phase I has been arrested in connection with the discovery of 14 bottles of liquor and drugs during a search of the vehicle.

Police identified the man as Ali Manik, 57, Neela Aakaash/Th.Gaadhiffushi.

He was arrested in connection with a tip-off received by the police, police said.

During the operation, 14 bottles of liquor were found in Ali Manik’s pickup truck as it was stopped and searched driving along Bougainvillae Magu, Hulhumale’. A rubber packet containing suspected drugs was recovered from his clothes, police said.

Police are investigating the incident.

Drug problems are the most common problem in Maldives. Worryingly, the number of people being arrested in such cases are rising too.
