Pres Muizzu optimistic about future as Maldives-Singapore mark 50 years to diplomatic ties

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu expressed optimism about continuing forward on the positive trajectory of Maldives-Singapore ties on Thursday, as the countries mark the 50th anniversary to the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In letters to Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, President Muizzu expressed appreciation for the close ties between the two countries and emphasized his optimism for the future of the bilateral partnership.

He also expressed his hope for greater collaboration in the future to jointly find new opportunities for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.

Reflecting on trade ties and people-to-people connections between the Maldives and Singapore, President Muizzu said that the concurrent increase in high-level exchanges over the years has played an instrumental role in advancing diplomatic ties.

He also conveyed his personal best wishes for the good health and well-being of the Singaporean leaders, and for the progress and prosperity of the people of Singapore.

President Muizzu also shared a separate message on his official X account, in he which conveyed greetings to the leaders, government and people of Singapore.

The Maldives and Singapore established formal diplomatic relations on February 20, 1975.

The President also shared a message on his official 'X' account to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore.

“The past 50 years have seen our trade ties, people-to-people connections and official engagements rise manifold, bringing our countries closer. It is my sincere hope that we may strengthen our cooperation in the future to sustain this momentum,” he wrote.

“May we continue forward on the positive trajectory the Maldives-Singapore ties have attained for the common benefit of both countries and peoples.”

The Maldives and Singapore established formal diplomatic relations on February 20, 1975.
