Charges sought against two in 2023 boat accident that killed businessman

The police have asked the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) for criminal charges against two people involved in a boat accident in 2023 that killed a local businessman.

The accident took place when two speedboats – SAS e Speed and MWSC Marine-2 – collided near K. Feydhoo Finolhu at around 04:42 pm on April 29, 2023.

Saudulla Ahmed, 52, who was travelling on one of the speedboats, sustained critical injuries in the accident and died at the ADK Hospital at around 06:15 pm the same day.

Saudulla’s death led to police investigations against the two people driving the speedboats. They are:

• Mohamed Jameel, 43, Green House, HDh. Nolhivaram
• Yanis Hameed, 35, Heena Villa, K. Kaashidhoo

The police had initially wrapped up the investigation against the two and asked the PGO for charges on June 4, 2023. But the case was sent back by the PGO for a review.

In a press statement on Monday, the police announced that they re-submitted the case to the PGO following further investigations on January 15.

Saudulla, a native of B. Kudarikilu, worked as a director at SAS e Construction. He is survived by three children.
