The boat – LEO Wing - had been carrying over 1,070 sacks of food staples donated by the chairman of LEO Trading Abdulla Sawad when it ran aground on the Ekefaru reef on Monday morning.
Nasih Ibrahim, the president of Nilandhoo Council, said that the cargo fell into the sea.
He told Sun that the ship had been carrying rice, sugar and flour.
LEO Trading had meant to donate a sack of rice, sugar and flour to each household in Nilandhoo and Dhaandhoo.
In addition to the loss of the cargo, the boat also sustained significant damages in the incident.
According to Nasih, a team from LEO Trading is working on refloating the boat.
