109 grams of drugs smuggled via air confiscated

Maldives Customs Service have confiscated 109 grams of narcotic items being smuggled via air courier.

The authority confiscated the items from Velana International Airport (VIA) on January 9^th. According to Customs, the content has been identified as cocaine.

Customs further reported that Maldives Police Service has been notified of the bust, and were investigating the case.

Police however, has not revealed any suspect details so far.

Previously, authorities arrested an individual who had attempted to smuggle drugs in the Maldives via VIA. The Maldives Criminal Court has since sentenced this individual to life imprisonment.
