The Infrastructure Ministry has launched a handbook on resilient housing guidance for the Maldives – a book developed in partnership with the World Bank to help Maldivians make their homes stronger, safer, increase resilience to disasters and climate change, while making their homes healthier and more comfortable to live in.
The book was launched in a ceremony held on Monday morning by Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib. At the event, Muthalib handed over a copy of the book to Minister of State for Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Mohamed Ibrahim.
According to the Infrastructure Ministry, this handbook is intended to serve as a guide to significantly improve the climate resilience of housing in the Maldives.
Addressing the event, Muthalib stressed the increasing need for climate resilient housing in the Maldives.
“This handbook on resilient housing guidance for the Maldives is a key step forward that is tailored for the specific needs of our beloved island communities,” he said.
According to the Infrastructure Ministry, the handbook was developed through a joint effort between Build Change and Riyan Private Limited and was funded by the World Bank, Global Facility for Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery, as well as the Japanese government and Climate Change Finance Gap Fund.
