President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday night, inaugurated Dharumavantha Hospital in Male’ as the main government hospital and on a tertiary level, offering crucial healthcare services.
Dharumavantha Hospital was developed during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration.
The 500-bed hospital was developed with USD 150 million (MVR 150 billion) funding from the state budget.
While a number of crucial healthcare services have been established at Dharumavantha Hospital as of present, Health Ministry handed over its operating license as a tertiary hospital at the inauguration ceremony.
The newly introduced services at the hospital in this regard are:
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dharumavantha Hospital’s CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem accused the former administration of leaving the hospital as a godown. In this trajectory, he said important machinery at the hospital were left without maintenance.
“Dharumavantha Hospital was in an indescribable state when the current administration assumed office,” he said.
Haleem said the current administration has investigated all such negligence since assuming office and subsequently resolved it. He added that all broken machinery and equipment have been replaced as part of these efforts.
Moreover, Haleem said floors that remained vacant have now been operationalized.
In this regard, the 17th floor has been allocated for delivery suits, the 18th and 19th floors have been allocated for admission rooms and the 21st floor has been allocated for administrative services.
The National Fertility Centre was established on the 22nd floor, he added.
Haleem congratulated President Muizzu on the inauguration of Dharumavantha Hospital tonight and extended gratitude for the high priority he has allocated to strengthen the health sector.
He also thanked doctors, healthcare service providers, Health Ministry and Finance Ministry.
