Chief of Defense Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, on Sunday, remarked that the current administration, even in its first year, has produced results in developing Maldives’ military.

He made the remark while speaking at a military display held at the Republic’s Square on Sunday evening as part of Victory Day events.

Speaking at the event was graced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as a chief guest, Hilmy cited the greatest joy of today as the head of the state being an individual who fiercely loves the nation and is committed to taking the military to new heights in order to defend the nation’s sovereignty. He noted that the current administration, even in its first year, has produced results in developing the military.

“Victory Day was previously only commemorated only military-level. The occasion had not been allocated enough or the right amount of significance. Henceforth, the current administration decided to commemorate the occasion as festive as possible,” he added.

Hilmy further said each solider must resolve to show the courage shown by Martyr Hussain Adam on November 2, 1988, in defending the nation. He affirmed that the Maldivian military remains committed to defend the nation, with every soldier abiding by their oath.

On this note, he provided assurance to the public that every soldier was ready to lay down their lives to defend the sovereignty of Maldives.

Many events have been planned this year to commemorate Victory Day including Sunday evening’s military display.

In this regard, Victory Day celebrations began with Fajr prayers held in congregation. Subsequently, the President and First Lady attended the flag and guard mounting ceremony at the Victory Day Monument.

An exhibition under the name 'Nasruge Dhuvahuge Sifainge Maurazu 2024' was inaugurated on Sunday morning which showcases the damage caused by the terrorist attack on November 3, 1988, and highlights the bravery displayed by the armed forces in achieving victory that day.

The exhibition will take place at the National Art Gallery from November 3rd to November 9th. It will be open for public viewing from 9am to 12pm, from 2pm to 6pm, and from 8pm to 10pm.

The official reception to commemorate Victory Day will be held tonight at Dharubaaruge.
