Maldives police have arrested three individuals on suspicion of smuggling over five kilos of drugs into the Maldives.
The police announced the arrests in a statement on Sunday. The three suspects arrested in the case were identified as:
According to the police, Ahmed Naseer was arrested from the Velana International Airport on the night of October 31, based on information provided to the agency by Customs.
The other two suspects were arrested from Male’ in a controlled delivery operation run by Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence.
All three suspects are accused of trafficking, possession and consumption of narcotics.
They were arrested with 5.936 kilos of drugs.
When presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearing, the court remanded Ahmed Naseer into the custody of police for five days, Ali Aiham for ten days, and Rohaman for seven days.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
