The Parliament’s Government Oversight Committee has begun reviewing the three changes made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to his cabinet in September.
On September 30, President Muizzu replaced the then-Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq with the then-Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, appointed the then-Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel as the new Foreign Minister, and Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, the then-Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy, as the new Health Minister.
The new appointments were sent to the Parliament for approval the same day. However, the legislative assembly had been in recess at the time.
The letter seeking approval for the new appointments was read at the Parliament on Monday morning as it reopened after recess.
It has been sent to the Government Oversight Committee for review.
The cabinet reshuffle in September had marked the first time for President Muizzu to make changes to the cabinet he appointed after he took office on November 17, 2023.
It came as international financial agencies urge the Maldives to take urgent measures to mitigate a rising risk of default on its external debt obligations.
