The police have made three arrested in a counter-narcotics operation in GA. Vilingili over the weekend.
In a statement on Monday morning, the police said the suspects were arrested in a joint operation in Vilingili by the Vilingili Police Station and the Narcotics Intelligence Department on Saturday, September 28.
According to the police, the operation was conducted following information received by the Narcotics Intelligence regarding a drug peddling ring in Vilingili.
The suspects arrested in the operation were identified as:
Following their arrest, the police raided the residence of one of the suspects, where they found narcotics; seven rubber packets containing drugs, four pieces of rubber, a cellophane packet, and a 20-liter container containing alcohol.
They were presented before the Vilingili Magistrate Court for their remand hearing on Sunday. The court remanded Athoof in custody of the police for 15 days, and the other two suspects for 10 days.
The case is under further investigation by the Vilingili Police Station.
The police have seized over 158 kilos of drugs and over 5,000 bottles of alcohol in the counter-narcotics operations in the past eight months. The collective street value of the narcotics is estimated to be above MVR 282 million.
