Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has taken over Home Minister Ali Ihusan’s security following a threat assessment.

Normally, the security of government ministers is overseen by a special team within Maldives Police Service.

Speaking with Sun on Tuesday, Home Ministry’s Spokesperson Fathimath Rifaath said MNDF took over Minister Ihusan’s security after a threat assessment which indicated that there was high risk. However, the Spokesperson did not detail the reasoning behind the assessment.

Threat assessments are conducted from time to time in order to identify any risk against ministers.

Crucial operations are presently being conducted under the oversight of Home Ministry which includes counter operations against drugs and gang crimes.

The Ministry alongside other authorities is also undertaking a special operation to identify undocumented migrants residing in the Maldives and collect their biometric data.
