State urges shifting illegal cars to designated plot at the earliest

The plot from Hulhumale' Phase II designated for the vehicles to park.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has urged owners of the illegal vehicles to shift them to the plot designated from Hulhumale' Phase II at the earliest.

Under an agreement, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) provided the land to the ministry last Friday, where illegal cars in Greater Male' area will be allowed to park until they are registered.

The ministry in a statement issued on Monday said, the authority has opened registration window for unregistered vehicles and those registered to different zones.

The ministry has facilitated parking of these vehicles at Hulhumale' lot number 452 vacant plot until they are legally registered, and urged the owners of all the vehicles that fall within these categories to shift them to the plot at the earliest possible date.

Transport Ministry further warned legal action against those who violate its instructions.

Mohamed Ameen, the Minister of Transport, earlier said the increase in illegal vehicles in Male' area rose to prolonged misconduct from relevant authorities. He said a prompt solution for the issue was challenging.

He further said these illegal vehicles will be given a 40-day period to shift to the Hulhumale' plot where they can be parked for a six-month duration until the vehicles are registered.

A total of 200 vehicles can park in the 40,000 square-feet plot.
