Aisha Nurain Janah has resigned from her post as the chairperson of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed her resignation in a post on its official X account on Wednesday morning.
According to PCB, Nurain tendered her resignation on Tuesday.
The board said it had “accepted her resignation and terminated her from the position.”
However, neither Nurain nor any other government source has commented on the reason for the abrupt decision.
Nurain is the daughter of Mohamed Ali Janah, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s principal advisor on trade investment. She was appointed as the chairperson of MMPRC, the state tourism board, on December 27, 2023.
Nurain had gained popularity following an interview to an international news outlet during the ITB Berlin, the world’s largest tourism trade fair, held in March. Soon after, several local medias reported of tensions within Tourism Ministry and MMPRC. However, the reports were denied by Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal.
