Yameen’s attorney Siyaz appointed to top post at Economic Ministry

Abdulla Siyaz, a member of former Maldivian president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s legal team, has been appointed to a top post at the Economic Ministry.

President’s Office spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed on Sunday that Siyaz was appointed as Minister of State at the Economic Ministry.

Siyaz had represented Yameen in the various court cases since 2019, including the successful appeal of his 11-year prison sentence for money laundering and bribery, which was overturned by the High Court on April 18.

Siyaz had serves as Deputy Economic Minister during Yameen’s administration.
