Govt assure uninterrupted academia for med students

The Students Union on Sunday, has said the Maldives government has assured the courses of Maldives National University (MNU)'s medical students will not be interrupted.

After Dharumavanatha Hospital demanded to vacant the two floors it extended to medical students for practical courseworks, the students union expressed its concern.

MNU's medical students and the union had met with relevant officials of the President's Office to discuss a solution.

The union on Saturday, released its statement confirming its meeting with the relevant government officials on Friday evening, which was attended by senior officials Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and MNU as well.

According to the union, the government officials who met with them reiterated President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu prioritizes development of the health sector, and assured the development of better facilities for medical students.

The union's statement added that through its meeting with the government officials, hopes renewed for medical students with the possibility to utilize the eighth and 14th floors of Dharumavantha Hospital for their practical studies.

Additionally, the union requested the government to continue facilitating the current premises for medical students since a permanent solution will require a significant amount of time.

Despite the hospital sending notice to evacuate the hospital's floors extended to medical students, MNU earlier said the students will not be exposed to detriments, announcing the decision to establish the medical school campus in Hulhumale'.

MNU also added that it prioritized the safety, security and assurance of education for the medical students.
