Pres Muizzu: Work hasn’t stalled, project to issue land going ahead at ‘full speed’

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says that work remains ongoing at full speed to issue land under the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, adding that he will provide land to all recipients as promised.

President Muizzu visited sites in Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu on Saturday, to check the progress of the project.

He spoke to reporters after touring each site.

Speaking to reporters from Giraavarufalhu, President Muizzu said an additional dredger would be brought in to speed up the land reclamation there.

He said that the target was to finish the project within 10 months, but that he hopes it gets wrapped up sooner.

He said that work on establishing water and sanitation would begin within this year.

“We are very confident we will get this done withing this time frame,” he said.

President Muizzu reiterated his promise to issue land to everyone on the list of recipients of land under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme.

He snoted that land was already being issued from Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Noting that people were already building boundary walls and doing other works on the plots, he said that building permits will be issued upon request.

“Therefore, issuance of land is in progress at full speed to everyone who made it on the list of recipients as promised,” he said.

Following a visit to Hulhumale’ Phase III, President Muizzu said that reclamation of the area would conclude in four months.

President Muizzu provided assurance he would resolve the housing crisis facing the Maldivian capital, adding that the government’s projects would ensure people receive housing from the location of their choice.
