Customs intercepted 13.92 kilos of drugs between Jan-March

Maldives Customs Service has intercepted 13.92 kilos of drugs smuggled into the Maldives so far this year.

Customs released its statistics for January-March on Tuesday. According to the information, synthetic cathinones made up for the highest percentage of the drugs seized per type, closely followed by heroin.

  • Synthetic cathinones: 6,544 grams
  • Heroin: 5,300 grams
  • MDMA: 1,152 grams
  • Methamphetamine: 570 grams
  • Amphetamine: 350 grams

Maldivian authorities have ramped up efforts to combat drug trafficking in recent weeks, especially to deal with an increase in drugs smuggled via courier.
