The capital city and neighboring islands have been filled with vibrant festive lights to celebrate the Islamic holidays which follows the holy month of Ramadan. The endeavor was carried out successfully with the collaboration of multiple government institutions.

Maldives government has decided to celebrate this year's Eid-ul-Fitr at a grand scale.

Various 'Eid Mubarak' light works in Arabic and popular symbols related to the Islamic celebrations have been fitted across the Greater Male' region providing colorful vibrancy.

President Dr. Muizzu had previously affirmed his government will prioritize Islamic festivities including Eid.

At the ceremony held to celebrate his presidential election win, President Muizzu said the light works propped across the city for last year's Eid-ul-Adha confirmed the support such an endeavor had among the citizens.

"When we lit up the city with festive lights with constant loops of the Takbir playing, the public's approval for this was visible from the support and positive feedback they provided to me," President Muizzu commented.

He also assured Islamic festivities will be celebrated at a grand scale throughout the Maldives depending on the capacity and strength of the respective island and atoll councils.

The recommissioned fountain at the Republic Square was constructed by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The structure measures 28 x 28 meters, and was first inaugurated during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration.

However, owing to lack of maintenance and care for the fountain in the last few years resulted in the structure remaining idle.
