Man caught trying to steal jewelry from sleeping woman

A young man has been arrested for trying to steal jewelry from a woman as she slept in her residence in Male’ City.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Maldivian man, was arrested for trespass and burglary.

He was presented before the Criminal Court for his remand hearing on Sunday. The court remanded him in custody of the police for 15 days, citing sufficient evidence to back the suspicion against him, including the police incident report.

According to the incident report, the suspect was held at Chilkalake, in Henveiru district of Male’, when the police arrived at the scene.

When questioned, the suspect confessed that he broke into the house to steal a gold necklace and pair of earrings the victim, an Indian woman, was wearing, as she slept.

The court documents also show that the suspect has a prior criminal record.
