Maldives Police Service has urged the public to increase caution when parking their motorbikes owing to recent surge in theft.

On Tuesday, the authority urged the public to park their vehicles, especially motorbikes, well lit locations at night to ensure safety of vehicles. Police further advised to park the vehicles in places that guarantee CCTV coverage.

Lack of adequate parking zones in Greater Male' region, specifically in Male' City, is a growing public concern, and has attracted constant criticism as well.

In response to the instructions from police, many criticized the lack of CCTV coverage for all available parking zones while some of the locations do not have proper lighting conditions either.

"This shows the government bodies responsible in keeping parking venues safe, monitored and well lit have failed," a netizen commented on social media.
