Hulhumale' accident victim dies

The victim involved in a dangerous collision between a parked van and a speeding motorbike in Hulhumale' Phase I, has passed away on Thursday.

Local reports state the local youth, aged 19, passed away while being treated for their injuries at the Tree Top Hospital.

The victim sustained serious injuries to their head, shoulder, chest, limbs and lungs.

The collision occurred when a speeding motorbike from Gul-alaamaa Hingun crashed into a parked van in front of the Immigration Detention Center.

Maldives Police Service said they received reports of the accident on Monday early morning around 2:30 a.m. The authority is investigating the collision.

Both the motorbike, the victim was riding at the time of the collision, and the van had sustained significant damages.

There has been an alarming increase of roadside accidents in Greater Male' Region, with some of these instances resulting in the demise of the injured victims.
