Pres quash rumors of alleged fallacies

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday, March 03, 2024, has denied allegations of puporting false pledges and mistatements, made by opposition members.

The main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has made multiple allegations claiming President Dr. Muizzu continued to make false statements and pledges.

Last week, the party held a rally at one of its campaign hubs to criticize the current administration.

President Dr. Muizzu responded to the criticism during the rally held at Raa atoll Dhuvaafaru on Sunday.

Dr. Muizzu asserted he never made any false statements and neither has he lied to the public on any occasion. Recalling the presidential oath he took on November 17, 2023, President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the importance of each statement he made publicly.

"I do not lie on matters, in fact, I always work closely with the public and media," he said.

Responding to criticisms placed by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Dr. Muizzu said he learned parliamentary election coinciding with a weekday through a news article, after which he made official announcement that the date would be a public holiday.

Dr. Muizzu suspected the opposition party was making attempts to mislead the public to create distrust towards him and his administration.

"No one can present me with something for which I don't have any answer, not even from a reporter. I promised to govern transparently," he said.

"Nothing has been concealed. Everything has been disclosed openly. The public is free to ask any question they wish, and for that I have no issues. Why should I hide anything?"

He further assured to lead a pro-public government, committed towards serving the citizens, and claimed he was not elected to rule but to serve the people.
