Authorities destroy 103 kilos of narcotics

Local authorities have destroyed over 103 kilograms of illicit narcotic substances confiscated in multiple different drug busts previously.

Maldives Police Service on Sunday, March 03, 2024, confirmed it had destroyed 3,121 items of evidence related to 958 cases and 197 incidents.

The narcotic substances were destroyed at Dhoonidhoo which was attended by senior officials of Maldives Police.

Items disposed of include;

  • 8,293 rubber packets
  • 2,731 cellophane wrappings
  • 237 empty boxes of analog film
  • 585 bullets
  • 30 joints
  • 537 pills
  • and 3,045 other items

Police reports the street value of all the items amount to an approximate total of MVR 425 million.

Under the new regulations on the disposal narcotic substances, Maldives Police said it would continue destroying all narcotic substances promptly after the legal duration for their confiscation ends.

The substances were destroyed under the supervision of the special committee tasked with disposing confiscated drugs.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan along with the Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, Deputy Commissioner Faruhad Fikry, officers of the police executive, and officers of the National Integrity Commission participated in the event at Dhoonidhoo.
