President Muizzu assures airport to Dhidhdhoo

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged the development of an airport in Haa Alifu atoll Dhidhdhoo.

While addressing the importance of airport development across key locations in the Maldives to enhance aviation and connectivity, President Dr. Muizzu has promised of establishing an airport in the upper-northern island according to wish of its locals.

He made the affirmation during his ongoing visit to Haa Alifu atoll, where he has been visiting the inhabited local islands to assess their conditions and progress of developmental projects.

“God willing, we pledge several developmental initiatives for this island”, Dr. Muizzu said speaking with Dhidhdhoo locals, and asserted the administration’s commitment to establish the airport.

While responding to opposition criticism over his priority for airport development, Dr. Muizzu explained that domestic aviation needs to be improved in the Maldives due to its geographical disposition.

“The public no longer wishes the same developmental policies of the preceding governments, especially when we factor the geographical and population distributions. The development of an airport is an imperative one for the people,” he added.

Concurrent with the airport development project, President Muizzu assured a land reclamation initiative for the island as well.

Development of an airport in Dhidhdhoo was also a significant pledge of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his re-election bid.

Besides the airport project, President Muizzu affirmed the establishment of a new hospital and sports facilities, and prioritize housing.
