The Ministry of Housing has confirmed issuing land registries to 8,000 of the Binveriya Scheme recipients.

A total of 8,250 recipients of the scheme have signed their agreements and received registries for their plots, the ministry said in its statement issued on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Another 118 recipients have received the letter of confirmation of the receipt of land, the ministry added.

The ministry reports 303 recipients have not been assigned with the plots while 16 recipients have not signed their contract owing to applicants wishing to waive their application for the plots. Additionally, 12 recipients have signature pending due to the demise of their co-applicants.

Another 120 applications have not proceeded to signature with pending due diligence on them.

The ministry affirms it is now working on signing the contracts with subsequent issuance of land registries to 212 applicants out of the pending total. Meanwhile, it was attempting to establish contact with the remainder of the pending recipients.

Earlier, the land regulation was amended granting authority to the Ministry of Housing to directly issue registries for land and plots under the Binveriya Scheme; which was previously held exclusively under the purview of the councils.

With a total of 18,955 applicants eligible for the first round of the social housing scheme, the government earlier announced 9,003 plots will be issued. The scheme entails issuance of plots from the Greater Male’ area inclusive of Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu, and Giraavaru Falhu besides Male’ City.
