Maldives opens 19 police posts in three months

Authorities have opened 19 police posts in islands across the Maldives over the last three months.

The police posts were opened as part of a plan in the administration’s ‘Hafuthaa 14’ roadmap to establish police presence in all residential islands.

Police said that 19 police posts had been opened since December. This includes three opened in December, seven in January, and nine in February.

The islands where the police posts were opened are:

• HDh. Kurin’bi
• HDh. Nellaidhoo
• Sh. Lhaimagu
• N. Lhohi
• N. Henbadhoo
• N. Maalhendhoo
• N. Milandhoo
• B. Maalhos
• B. Kihaadhoo
• B. Kudairkulu
• B. Hithaadhoo
• V. Thinadhoo
• V. Fulidhoo
• Dh. Hulhudheli
• Th. Vandhoo
• Th. Gaadhiffushi
• L. Maabaidhoo
• GA. Kondey

The last police post was opened in Kondey, on Thursday.

In a post on X on Friday, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau described the opening of the police posts as “a tremendous accomplishment.”

He thanked everyone who assisted the police in reaching the important milestone.

The police said they are engaged in efforts to expand neighborhood policing and establish police presence in all inhabited islands, aimed at fostering closer engagement with the community.
