President Muizzu departs to Dubai to attend Investment Forum, World Govt. Summit

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Sunday evening, departed on an official visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The president is accompanied by Special Advisor Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheeed (Asward) and several other senior government officials.

The visit, undertaken at the invitation of Vice President, Prime Minister and Minister for Defense of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is to attend the World Government Summit 2024 which will be held from Monday, February 12th to Wednesday, February 14th.

This year’s theme for the World Government Summit is 'Shaping Future Governments' – where governments, international organizations, thought leaders, and private sector leaders will come together to discuss future challenges and empower the next generation of governments.

President Muizzu is scheduled to deliver a main address at the Summit and hold meetings with dignitaries attending the Summit at approximately 4:40pm local time. It will mark the first time a Maldivian president is participating and delivering an address at the summit.

He will also attend and deliver the keynote address at the Maldives Investment Forum held in Dubai on Tuesday, February 13th. 

The Investment Forum is the most important agenda on the trip. Briefing local journalists participating in the trip, Maldivian Ambassador at Large in Dubai Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) almost 300 participants have registered for the forum which includes a large number of local businesses as well.

Mundhu noted that significant investments are made by UAE investors in the Maldives, particularly in the tourism sector. He added the businesses will have the opportunity to directly meet the president and specific ministers, upon request,  

As Maldives gears up for the huge investment forum in Dubai – a similar forum for investors was held in China during President Muizzu’s state visit to the country.

The forum saw many Chinese businesses express interest in projects announced by the president.
