President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed arrived in China on Monday, on the Maldivian leader’s first state visit since assuming office in November.
They are making the visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha were greeted by senior Chinese officials upon their arrival in Xiamen, in China’s Fujian province, on Monday morning.
According to the President’s Office, Maldives and China will hold official talks and sign key agreements to improve trade, professional, and socioeconomic development in the Maldives during the visit.
The visit aims to pave the way for technological and other collaborations between the two countries, said the PO.
President Muizzu is also scheduled to meet with senior Chinese government officials, attend the Invest Maldives Forum, and have meetings with senior Chinese business leaders to explore avenues of mutual collaborations in investments and trade between the Maldives and China.
The President and First Lady are being accompanied by a high-level delegation, including government minister.
They are set to conclude the visit on Friday.
