Foundation was laid for the new school being developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II which will have the capacity to accommodate over 1,700 students.
The foundation was laid by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a special ceremony on Monday evening.
The project contracted to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) under the contractor finance model will see the development of 54 classrooms and other education-related facilities. The school is located near Hiyaa Tower 16.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Muizzu said the goal was to commence works on the school’s foundation in January and complete the whole project within a maximum period of 18 months.
The President, citing capacity building as one of his Administration's top priorities, alongside infrastructural development, said the groundbreaking of a new school symbolized the commencement of the Administration’s capacity-building initiatives.
He also emphasized the need for capacity building as equivalent to infrastructural development, adding that as planned, he ensured that his first groundbreaking development project was to develop an educational facility.
Education Minister Ismail Shafeeu who also spoke at the ceremony said the new school will eliminate the difficulties faced by students residing in Hulhumale’ Phase II, referring to travel they had to undertake to either Phase I or Male’ City to attend schools.
“This symbolizes the love in his [President Muizzu] heart for students. It shows the priority the administration places on the education sector,” he added.
