President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Jumhoory Party (JP)’s leader, Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim held a meeting at the President’s Office on Wednesday.

The government’s chief spokesperson Mohamed Shabeeb confirmed to Sun that the meeting took place. However, no details regarding the meeting have been disclosed by the government so far.

Prior to this, Qasim’s JP’s leadership met with government PPM-PNC coalition’s leadership for discussions regarding collaborating for the upcoming parliamentary election.

No further meetings were held in this trajectory afterward.

In late November, Sun learned that Qasim received a proposal to merge JP with PNC; a proposal which he had denied.

Qasim had contested in the first round of September’s presidential elections. He received 5,460 votes and failed to qualify for the run-off.

JP had been a coalition partner of the previous administration. The party broke the coalition at the last minute, deciding to contest the elections independently.
