Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has travelled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to attend the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
President Muizzu, accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior government officials, arrived in Dubai on Thursday.
In a statement announcing President Muizzu’s arrival, the President’s Office said the COP28 holds significant importance to the Maldives, as it provides an opportunity to discuss the country's ambitions for global sustainable development
President Muizzu is scheduled to deliver an address at the summit on Friday.
COP28 will mark a milestone, as the world takes stock of its progress on the Paris Agreement. The first Global Stocktake will provide a comprehensive assessment of progress since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, facilitating efforts to align climate action and address gaps in progress.
President Muizzu travelled to Dubai after concluding an official visit to Türkiye at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
