Police officer injured while arresting a suspect

A police officer was injured while arresting a suspect in Male’ City tonight.

Police, in a message to the media, said officers spotted an individual suspected of being in possession of drugs while patrolling on Janavaree Magu at approximately 20:19pm on Tuesday night.

Police said the suspect ran to flee the officers. An officer was struck on the mouth as the officer attempted to stop and apprehend the suspect, they added.

The officer had sustained a lip laceration.

Police said the 37-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested, following which an investigation has been launched.

A video, captioned the arrest of a man who assaulted a police officer, is presently viral on social media. It shows a man being arrested and taken away by two officers.
